Our Commitment to Safety
Donny Wonny is built around emotional wellness and personal growth. Safety is not an afterthought — it is woven into every layer of the product, from content moderation to crisis detection. We are committed to providing a secure environment where teens and adults (13 and up) can reflect, grow, and connect without fear.
Crisis & Emergency Resources
If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, please contact your local emergency services (911 in the US). For crisis support, the following resources are available 24/7:
988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline
Call or text 988 — free, confidential, 24/7.
Crisis Text Line
Text HOME to 741741 to connect with a trained crisis counselor.
SAMHSA Helpline
Call 1-800-662-4357 for substance-abuse and mental-health referrals.
Trevor Project (LGBTQ+ Youth)
Call 1-866-488-7386 or text START to 678-678.
How We Keep You Safe
AI Safety Layer
The AI companion is designed with safety guardrails. Both journal entries and chat input pass through an automated crisis-detection layer that scans for indicators of self-harm, suicidal ideation, and acute distress. When the layer fires, the app surfaces the crisis resources listed above (988, Crisis Text Line, etc.). The AI is not a clinician and is instructed not to provide medical diagnoses, prescribe treatments, or replace professional mental-health care.
Content Moderation
User-generated content (community posts, profile bios, etc.) passes through an automated moderation pipeline that combines keyword rules and AI safety screening. Flagged items are routed to a human moderation queue. We prohibit content that promotes self-harm, violence, harassment, hate speech, or exploitation. Violating content is removed; users who repeatedly violate policy may have their accounts suspended through admin moderation tools.
Data Protection
All traffic is sent over TLS, and stored data is encrypted at rest by our cloud provider (Google Cloud Firestore, AES-256 by default). Growth Circles and Encrypted Chat (inside pods) use end-to-end encryption on supported mobile apps. Together Thread, pod post feeds, and Donny Den community rooms are server-readable — not E2E. Mentor video rooms are not on the same E2E layer. We do not sell personal data to third parties — see our Privacy Policy and Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information for full details and your CPRA rights.
Child & Teen Safety
We take extra precautions for younger users:
- Donny Wonny is for ages 13 and up in most regions. We use age attestation at first launch (your age, not your full date of birth) and enforce higher minimums where law requires — including 16+ in Australia and Malaysia when accessing from those countries. We reject any registration below the applicable minimum; there is no under-13 account path.
- Once a parent links a child to a family account and activates parental controls, guardians can: block specific users, switch the child's DMs into allowlist-only mode, set quiet hours, disable group chat, receive stranger-DM alerts, and (optionally) escrow message copies for review.
- Family content-filter and time-limit settings (strict/moderate/relaxed) are configurable by the parent on the family dashboard. They are not automatically applied based on age alone.
- First DMs between any two users always route through a message-request inbox, which the recipient must accept before further messages can be sent. This applies to all accounts. We do not, however, automatically block all minor-to-adult DMs at the platform level — that protection is provided by the stranger-request gate plus the parental controls described above when activated by a parent.
- Cross-account abuse signals (repeated stranger DMs, reports, IP/device fingerprints) are aggregated by an automated abuse aggregator that can shadowban or suspend repeat offenders.
- Because we do not permit under-13 accounts, we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13; if we learn of such an account we disable it and delete the data.
- Community and messaging features may be regulated as social media in some countries. Before we market in Australia or Malaysia we may require third-party age verification that confirms you meet the minimum age without us storing your government ID or date of birth. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Reporting Concerns
Your reports help us maintain a safe community. You can report:
- Inappropriate or harmful content via the Report button on any post or profile.
- Safety concerns directly to our Trust & Safety team atsafety@donnywonny.com
- Potential child exploitation to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) CyberTipline.
Reports are reviewed by our trust & safety team. We prioritize reports involving imminent harm, child safety, and CSAM, and route those to the appropriate authorities (e.g. NCMEC) where required by law. We do not guarantee a specific turnaround time on this page. You will not face retaliation for making a good-faith report.
Transparency
We are committed to transparency about our safety practices. We update this page as our systems evolve and will share information about content moderation actions and policy improvements. If you have suggestions for how we can do better, please contact us at
