Privacy & rules for teens
Last updated:
If you are under 18, we treat your account as a child account for privacy defaults. That includes California users who are 13–17. You still have to meet the minimum age for your region (13+ in the US, higher in some countries).
Your profile starts private
New teen accounts start with a private profile. Other people should not find you in public search just because you signed up. You (and, where the product allows, a parent or guardian) can change that later in Privacy settings. If you already chose public, we do not silently switch you back.
What a parent or guardian can see
If this account is supervised, a parent or guardian can:
- Use Family & Safety tools (the Family Dashboard)
- Get safety alerts if the app thinks you might be in a crisis — for example from Let It Out, a journal entry, or a chat with Donny
Those alerts say that something may be wrong and where it came from. They do not include the words you wrote in your journal or chat.
In the app, supervised accounts see a notice about this. That is on purpose: you should know when a parent can get safety alerts.
What we do not do with teen accounts
- We do not use your data for targeted ads
- AI training is off unless a parent has verified consent and someone turns it on
- Community posts and stranger DMs stay locked until a parent verifies consent
- Ages 13–15 have extra limits on public community and DMs
How we know your age
You tell us your age when you create an account. We also use your network location to apply regional rules (for example, 16+ from Australia or Malaysia, 18+ from India). That is not the same as showing a government ID. Some countries may require a stronger check later. We do not store ID photos or ID numbers when a verification vendor is used — only whether the check passed.
The full rules
Please read these if you want every detail (or if a parent is reviewing the account):
Questions or want something deleted?
You or a parent can email privacy@donnywonny.com or parents@donnywonny.com. You can also use data deletion.
